Investment Strategies & Selection
If you have a lump sum to invest, or you wish to invest regular savings or superannuation contributions, we can advise you on asset allocation, investment strategies and investment selection.
We can advise you on direct and managed investments in Australia, and managed funds overseas, to help you generate competitive returns and reduce risk… and in so doing help you achieve your financial goals.
What is our investment philosophy?
The objective of our investment advice is to help you reliably generate the long-term net return you require in order to achieve your lifestyle goals, whilst ensuring that investment risk, investment tax and investment fees are all minimised on an ongoing basis.
To help us achieve this objective, we employ an investment philosophy which incorporates the following five components:
- The risks to an investment portfolio need to be actively monitored and managed.
- Buying quality assets at reasonable price is the best way to achieve competitive long term results.
- Investment management fees must be kept to low levels
- Portfolios should be managed to maximise after-tax results
- Your strategic financial investment plan should be designed to ensure you achieve your long term lifestyle goals while taking as little risk as possible.
A Diversified Portfolio – the best of both worlds
A diversified portfolio invests in each of the major asset classes, in proportions that suit the risk & return profile of the investor. The major asset classes are shares, property, fixed interest and cash. A well-diversified portfolio usually invests in a number of securities in each asset class, directly and/or via managed funds, and may invest in Australia and overseas.
A diversified portfolio gives you access to the potentially higher returns from quality shares and property, combined with the security of fixed interest and cash.
What is a Proactive Investment Approach
We offer a Proactive Investment Approach
The objective for the approach is consistent with a long-term investment horizon and uses an effective blend of active and passive investment managers across the major asset classes. This aims to reduce portfolio turnover, improve tax-efficiency and help to reduce overall management costs.
On an ongoing basis, we will allocate to those assets we view as attractive and steer away from those we perceive as unattractive. The allocations to investment managers will also be proactively managed, depending on our view of the specific market.
While we do not believe investors require a permanent and/or fixed exposure to every asset class, we do believe that assets must be well diversified. To varying degrees, underlying investments are chosen to provide exposure to a diverse range of asset classes, investment managers and securities.
We utilise a list of approved products researched by Morningstar Australasia Pty Ltd and the Australian Unity Investment Product Committee. Investments not included on this list may only be recommended where considered suitable for individual clients and with specific consent of AUPFSL.
